Ben Nevis in Winter

Ben Nevis in Winter

Reaching the summit of the UK's highest mountain is an incredible achievement, but if you fancy making it even more of a challenge why not give it a try in winter.

The Scottish winter mountain environment is truly unique, and something that everyone should have the opportunity to experience. With all weather conditions possible on any one day we will go fully prepared for anything the mountain may give us. You will need plenty of warm clothes, spare gloves, goggles/sunglasses, winter boots, crampons, an ice axe and most importantly, a sense of adventure! Winter equipment can be hired if you don't have your own.

If you are reasonably fit and conditions are good you should be able to walk up Ben Nevis in a full day walk of seven to nine hours - but you should never take it lightly.
Ben Nevis in winter
The Mountain Path starts in Glen Nevis and is around 16km (start to finish). It rises 1,300m followed by the same in descent with the top half being covered in snow. Reaching the summit is not guaranteed but we will look after you and guide you there if it is at all possible.

Some summer walking experience is useful but you don't need any experience in winter to give this a go. If you have never used crampons and an ice axe before there will be plenty of time to pick up the basics while we ascend the mountain, but you could really get to grips with the kit by booking a two day Winter Skills + Ben Nevis course: day one we would go through all the basic skills, and on day two attempt Ben Nevis.
