AVALANCHE AWARENESS
Avalanches occur very frequently throughout the Scottish winter and regularly injure mountaineers and climbers. By studying the theory of how snow changes structure and forms avalanche hazards, assessing the risk of the hazards and making real decisions based on our assessments we can learn how to travel safely in the hills in winter.
An avalanche awareness course requires some winter walking experience and knowledge of the use of ice axes and crampons so we can search out the most interesting snow and assess the avalanche risk there. You will come away with an in depth knowledge of how snow works, how to assess the risk and how to avoid it, giving you the confidence to explore the winter hills in safety. Avalanches are predictable and avoidable. Make sure you have the skills to enjoy the winter mountains without getting caught up in one. We can run avalanche awareness courses on any day of the week so get in touch to check our availability and make a booking. |
